14th National Insulin Summit

The 14th national insulin summit was hosted virtually on 12-13 December 2020 with the theme ‘Celebrating 100 years of innovation- Insulin for Life’. Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev spoke on “Technological Advances in Insulin delivery and glucose sensing”, detailing on smart insulin pens, upcoming new pumps, iCGM etc on 13 December 2020. The national convener of the program was Dr.AK Das. Two day live interactive event with distinguished national and international faculty witnessed participation of more than 2000 doctors from around the country.

Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev was the faculty at All India Association for Advancing Research in Obesity Conference (AIAAROCON), Odisha State Chapter on 13 December 2020. He spoke on the ‘use of telemedicine for weight loss: experience during COVID-19’. The session was chaired by Dr.B.K Mishra and Dr.P.K Acharya and moderated by Dr.K.N Padhairy. Dr.Banshi D Saboo, Dr.Rakesh Sahay, Dr.Shashak Shah and Dr.Ganapati Bantwal were the other speakers of the session. The session was wound up by Dr.Sambit Das. The event beheld brilliant interaction among faculty and the delegates.

16th International Conference of Telemedicine Society of India (TSI) hosted TELEMEDICON2020 from 18 to 20 December 2020 with the tag ‘Telehealth- From the fringes to Mainstream’. On 18 December 2020, Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev spoke on ’23 years of telemedicine practice in diabetes: Merits & Demerits’ at Telemedicine & Diabetes symposium of the program. Dr.V Mohan and Dr.Sanjay Sharma spoke on ‘experience with telemedicine for diabetes during lockdown (COVID-19)’ and ‘managing diabetic foot with telemedicine’ respectively in the symposium. Dr.V Mohan and Dr.T Senthil were the moderators of the symposium. The session was followed by dynamic discussion among the faculty. The three day event was organised under the leadership of Dr.Sunil Shroff attended by around 1500 delegates.

JDC Patient Education Program December 2020

The JDC Patient Education Program December 2020, hosted virtually on 19 December 2020 through the zoom platform had 100 selected patients of Jothydev’s Diabetes Research Centre. The program was set off by Mr.Jayapalan A Nair, director of operations, JDC, with the welcome address. Subsequently Dr.Sajna Shijin gave an introduction about the patient education program and introduced the members of JDC to the participants. Ms.Gopika Krishnan, academic head, JDC, talked about JDC and the research undergoing here. The sessions began with the talk of Dr.Arun Shankar, medical director, JDC, on ‘diabetes management’. Ms.Geethu Sanal, chief dietitian, JDC, gave a comprehensive talk on ‘diet in diabetes’. Injectables, medicine timings and other queries with regard to drug intake were addressed by Dr.Sajna Shijin and Dr.Yaseen Unes. Ms.Remya Jose, diabetes nurse explained injection techniques to the patients. The topics ‘sensors and technology in diabetes’ and ‘glucose monitoring techniques and follow-up’ were presented by Ms.Akhila Manoj and Ms.Soumya Rajalekshmi respectively. The participants engaged actively in discussion and asked several questions to the team. Several patients shared their experiences and appreciated the efforts put forward by the diabetes team of JDC in helping them manage their diabetes. The program was wound up by Ms.Sunitha Jothydev, Executive Director, JDC, with a vote of thanks.

The Advances in Diabetes, Obesity, Research & Endocrinology hosted a virtual CME on 19 December 2020. Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev was the speaker of the session ‘Role of technology in insulin therapy’ chaired by Dr.S.R Aravind. The topic of the lecture was, ‘Role of digital therapeutics in basal insulin initiation and intensification’. He spoke on "Insulia", an US FDA approved platform for basal insulin titration controlled by the doctor but executed by the patient in his own mobile phone. The talk was followed by a highly intellectual debate on the topic ‘Mobile app based patient support system for basal insulin intensification- is it the need of the hour’ by three stalwarts: Dr.Krishna Seshadri, who talked for the topic, Dr.Aravind Sosale, who talked against the topic and Dr.Shashank R Joshi, moderator of the debate.

19th Annual conference of Uttar Pradesh Diabetes Association, UPDACON 2020, organized by Dr.Anuj Maheshwari and team, was held virtually on 19-20 December 2020. Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev was an esteemed faculty of the event. He enunciated on ‘GLP1 creating history with hypoglycemia free life in diabetes: Injection to pill’ on 19 December 2020. Dr.K.C Lohani, a very senior professor of Uttarakhand, appreciated the lecture and teaching skills of Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev.

iSchool: The Insulin Training Virtual Workshop

Kesavadev Trust, Jothydev’s Diabetes Hospital and Research Centre along with IMA-AMS Nemom organized iSchool: The Insulin Training Workshop virtually on 21 December 2020. The workshop modules were covered in 3 ½ hours in digital format from 6:00pm - 9:30pm. Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev, Dr.Arun Shankar, Ms.Gopika Krishnan, Ms.Geethu Sanal, Dr.Ashwin David Ashok, Ms.Akhila Manoj, Dr.Yaseen Unes, Dr.Sajna Shijin discussed diverse topics related to insulin including overview of diabetes management and insulin therapy, insulin regimens, types, benefits and challenges, insulin initiation, titration and intensification, basics of nutrition in diabetes, insulin therapy with OHA, insulin storage, injection and techniques, dos and don’ts, newer technologies for insulin delivery, insulin delivery devices and case studies and discussion. This was followed by active interactions.

He gave a comprehensive lecture on ‘Empowering ASCVD patient outcomes in T2DM: learning with SGLT2i’ in SGLT2i symposium chaired by Dr.V.K Abichandani and Dr.Harshad Patel. The rapporteur of the session was Dr.Vipul Chavda.
