9. JDC Updates


December 2-6, 2019: IDF Congress 2019, Busan

International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Congress 2019, Busan, organized by International Diabetes Federation (IDF) was held from Dec 02 - 06, 2019 at Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO), Busan, South Korea. The convention was attended upon by delegates from over 170 countries.

A total of five research papers were presented at the IDF congress by the team of researchers who comprised of Dr. Jothydev Kesavadev, Dr. Arun Shankar, Ms. Gopika Krishnan, Dr. Ashwin David Ashok, Ms. Annie Ajai, Ms. Geethu Sanal and Ms. Sunitha Jothydev.

The research studies were as follows:
1. Real-world evidence of improved glycemic control among older adults with T2DM undergoing integrated care for 10 years.
2. The impact of unproven therapies in diabetes and the role of education.
3. An evaluation of the prescription pattern of IDegAspand its clinical outcomes in Indian clinical practice.
4. One year JADE-assisted integrated diabetes care improves cardiometabolic control in 4 low- and middle-income countries.
5. “Real-world assessment of glycemic control among female diabetes subjects: an observational cohort study”.
IDF is the global scientific organization responsible for diabetes treatment guidelines and the authority conducting world diabetes day every year.


December 23, 2019: Final Mini JPEF CME 2019

JPEF in association with Kesavadev Trust conducted the final mini JPEF CME of 2019 on 23 December, 2019 at Residency Tower, Trivandrum. Ms. Gopika Krishnan, Director, Research and Academics, Jothydev’s Diabetes Research Centres, Kerala offered welcome. The session started with lecture by Dr. Sunil Prasobh. P, Additional Professor of Internal Medicine, Govt. Medical College, Kollam on “Case studies- Highlighting Rational Selection of insulins and newer antidiabetic drugs”. The session was chaired by Dr. Arun Shankar, Senior Consultant Diabetologist & Medical Director, Jothydev’s Diabetes Research Centre, Kerala. The second lecture was chaired by Dr.Ashwin David Ashok, Clinical Head and Chief Diabetologist, Jothydev’s Diabetes Research Centre, Attingal. The speaker was Dr. TittuOommen, Consultant Endocrinologist, Providence Endocrine and Diabetes Speciality Centre, Trivandrum on “ Extending the frontiers of in-patient management of hyperglycemia”. The third session titled “Co-formulations: The present and the future of insulin therapy” was by Dr. Jothydev Kesavadev, Chairman and Managing Director, Jothydev’s Diabetes Research Centres, Kerala. It was chaired by Dr. Aswin David. The final session was presented by Dr. A. George Koshy, Professor of Cardiology, Govt. Medical College, Trivandrum on “Sulphonyl ureas and CV risk”. It was chaired by Dr.AnandMarthanda Pillai, Interventional Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist, Ananthapuri Hospitals, Trivandrum. At the end of the session, there was a panel discussion for half an hour on the topics presented. The day ended with cake cutting to usher Christmas and New Year.
