Moong Dal and Cauliflower Greens Appe (Paniyaram)


  • 1/2 cup yellow moong dal (split yellow gram)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped cauliflower greens
  • 1/2 cup crumbled low-fat paneer (cottage cheese)
  • 1 tsp green chilli paste
  • 1 tsp roasted cumin seeds (jeera)
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tsp oil for greasing


  1. Clean, wash and soak the yellow moong dal in enough water for 3 to 4 hours.
  2. Drain and blend the moong dal in a mixer to a smooth paste using ΒΌ cup of water.
  3. Transfer the mixture into a deep bowl, add the cauliflower greens, green chilli paste, cumin seeds and salt, mix well and keep aside.
  4. Heat the appe pan on a medium flame and grease it with 1 tsp of oil.
  5. Pour 1 tbsp of the batter into each mould, cover with a lid and cook on a medium flame till the outer surface becomes golden brown and then turn each appe upside down using a fork so as to cook on the other side. You can cook 6 appes at a time in 6 moulds.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 to make 6 more appes.
  7. Serve immediately with healthy green chutney.
