The NABH-accredited Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) at Jothydev’s Diabetes Research Center continues to reinforce its commitment to ethical, transparent, and patient-centric clinical research in alignment with NDCT Rules 2019, ICMR National Ethical Guidelines, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards. The institution welcomed the return of Dr. Thomas Mathew as Chairperson for a second term and Dr. Sumesh Raj as Clinician Expert, alongside the continued contributions of its multidisciplinary IEC members in upholding scientific integrity, regulatory compliance, and participant safety across all research initiatives.

Type 1 Diabetes Awareness & Advocacy

Dr. Jothydev Kesavadev highlighted the urgent need for stronger support systems and advanced diabetes care access for children living with Type 1 diabetes in Kerala. Emphasizing the complexity of Type 1 diabetes management, he discussed the importance of analog insulin, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), insulin pump therapy, and automated insulin delivery (AID) systems in improving long-term outcomes and preventing complications. He also reflected on the continued efforts of the P. Kesavadev Trust through initiatives such as KT1DP, Sweet Stars, and the DREAMS project, which provide free education, awareness, and training programmes for children with Type 1 diabetes and their families across Kerala.

He emphasized the importance of appropriate patient selection, long-term safety monitoring, and ethical, evidence-based use of these therapies under medical supervision, while cautioning against misuse driven by unrealistic body image expectations.

ADC Oration

Dr. Jothydev Kesavadev was invited to deliver the prestigious ADC Oration at the ADC Conference held in Bengaluru. The oration, titled “Four Life Lessons from 28 Years of Diabetes Technology: Insights from Four Patient Journeys.” focused on the expanding role of advanced technologies and precision-driven approaches in transforming modern diabetes care.

Vaccination in Diabetes

Dr. Jothydev Kesavadev shared an educational video emphasizing the critical role of vaccination in individuals living with diabetes. The message highlighted the importance of influenza, pneumococcal, and herpes zoster vaccinations in reducing the risk of severe infections, hospitalization, and associated complications. The initiative reinforced the significance of preventive immunization as an integral component of comprehensive diabetes care and long-term health protection.

Bridging Evidence and Practice in Diabesity - Trivandrum

Dr. Jothydev Kesavadev delivered a keynote lecture on “Innovator Semaglutide: A Unified Approach to Management of Diabetes, Obesity and Beyond” at the Bridging Evidence and Practice in Diabesity meeting in Trivandrum. The session brought together leading clinicians for discussions on GLP-1-based therapies, cardiometabolic risk reduction, MASLD, and the importance of evidence-based, quality-driven approaches in diabesity care. The academic program also featured a case-based presentation by Dr. Arun Shankar on “Case 1: Early Intervention for T2D Patients,” highlighting the value of timely and proactive management in type 2 diabetes.

Meeting with the Hon. Chief Minister of Kerala

Dr. Jothydev Kesavadev and Ms. Sunitha Jothydev met the Hon. Chief Minister of Kerala, Shri V.D. Satheesan, and presented a memento on behalf of the P. Kesavadev Trust. A copy of Stories by Kesavadev, published by DC Books, was also presented during the meeting. The interaction reflected a shared appreciation for literature and cultural heritage, with the Chief Minister fondly acknowledging his longstanding familiarity with the works of the legendary writer P. Kesavadev. The occasion served as a meaningful convergence of public service, literature, and culture.

Patient Education Programme at JDC

Jothydev’s Diabetes Research Centre (JDC) conducted its monthly patient education programme to promote diabetes awareness and self-management. Dr. Jothydev Kesavadev and Ms. Anjana Basanth delivered sessions on diabetes care and management, including the role of diabetes technology in improving outcomes. The multidisciplinary programme also featured practical guidance on insulin injection techniques, nutrition, and exercise from the nursing, dietetics, and physiotherapy teams.
