Issue 28, February 2011

Dear Friends,
This issue's Malayalam video presentation by Dr.Jothydev is on 'Using Glucometers in the Proper Way'.Though regarded as the gold standard in diabetes care, false beliefs and wrong techniques are major barriers to proper use of glucometers. Self monitoring of blood glucose using glucometers helps in changing medications and lifestyles to maintain normal sugars.

Numerous tips on how to deal with the problem of ‘gas in the abdomen’ is vividly discussed in this issue of Gems. Scientists have discovered the root cause of blood vessel damage in diabetes. This will be helpful for the diabetes treatment in future. Also there is good news for T1 patients and their parents. Both the above articles and some other interesting articles on the importance of safflower oil and cinnamon in diabetes control etc. also find place in Gems.
